Anouck qualified as a veterinarian from Ghent University (Belgium) in 2001 and defended her thesis on the welfare of horses at the University of Madrid (Spain). In 2009, she completed her PhD in Ethology at the University of Namur (Belgium), where her research demonstrated that positive training significantly enhances the welfare and performance of military dogs.
Since 2013, she has been recognized as an EBVS© European Veterinary Specialist in Behavioural Medicine (ECAWBM) and is actually Past-President of the College. In 2021, she was appointed Professor in Veterinary Behavioural Medicine at Ghent University. Anouck is actively involved in various veterinary associations focused on animal behaviour.
Alongside her work in veterinary behavioural consultations at Vet Ethology, she teaches animal behaviour in collaboration with several institutions and regularly lectures both in Belgium and internationally about animal behaviour and human-animal interactions.
Her areas of expertise and research focus on the application of ethology to improve the quality of life for companion animals, with a particular emphasis on olfactory enrichment and non-invasive brain stimulation in domestic animals. She is deeply committed to understanding the cognitive and emotional needs of animals.
In this lecture, we will deepen the relationship between pain management and cat welfare. We will explore how addressing pain can lead to better behavioural outcomes, enhancing the overall well-being of cats.
